Graphic Novel Blog

Graphic Novel Rating: I had a very enjoyable time reading this graphic novel for multiple reasons. One of these reasons being the fact that it is a digital interactive graphic novel that kept me reading and continuously wanting to turn the page with excitement. What I like the best about the graphic novel is the twist and the well throughout plot of the book brining back other characters from the previous versions of Metal Gear Solid. For example when Raiden the main character meets Plisken who claims to be one of the seals helping clear out big shell which is the base of the operation where the terrorist infiltrated. Plisken later reveals that he is in fact the legendary Solid Snake working undercover to clear the terrorists out of big shell. The only part I didn’t like about this was the fact it didn’t center around Solid Snake more but more on Raiden although snake made numerous appearances I would’ve liked it better If Snake was more involved. Overall I think this was a very well written graphic novel and I’m hopping for more interactive digital graphic novels to be released soon.

Character Profile: In this particular story of Metal Gear the protagonist happens to be a brand new agent in the field of tactical espionage named Raiden. This mission happens to be his first time actually seeing the field outside of virtually simulated missions. Although Raiden is a very key character in the story there is another hero who was in the previous Metal Gear stories named, Solid Snake who has a very interesting background. In 1978 a CIA agent, Jack (no last name was specified) AKA Naked Snake, AKA Big Boss was officially declared the greatest soldiers, CIA agent, and spy. Later that year a foundation decided to clone big boss and create what is known as the Les Enfants Terrible creating three brothers Liquid snake, Solid Snake, and Solidus Snake each all having exact DNA to Big Boss. The most focused on was Solid Snake making him equally as good or maybe better then big boss. Solid Snake has saved the world from nuclear destruction multiple times in his past experiences and is named a legend. His arch nemeses happens to be his twin brother liquid who is constantly finding ways to rule the world with the ultimate military weapon. In this particular story Snake finds himself trying to tackle yet another Metal Gear but this time it isn’t liquid it is his other brother Solidus Snake who is also attempting to attain the ultimate military power. Solid Snake goes into the mission thinking it is just himself and his tech. partner Otocon but he later meets Raiden and they form an alliance to take down Solidus and his group of Terrorists.

Like all Metal Gear Solid graphic novel I always find that the drawings are done in very unique and complicated way. These two elements along with the choice of colour and darkness keeps you in that mood where it seems that all odds are against the two heroes, Solid Snake and Raiden. One panel I find to be very important is the slide when Raiden discovers the new Metal Gear because this is where the climax in the story begins and will keep u turning the page to see how Snake and Raiden will over throw Solidus and his crew. The colour in this panel is brighter on the metal gear but much darker on Raiden to show that there are two focal points snake and the metal gear. Another panel I found to be of interest is the fight between Snake and Ocelot. The shading and color is very dull and based mainly like that to show that the fight is anyone’s game seeing as how ocelot and snake are the same colour. The Final Panel is the one when Raiden swims through the freshly cut hole in the fence discovering someone else is undergoing an stealth sabotage mission as well. The colour in this Panel is very blue and light probably showing Raiden’s oblivious mind as to who has broken in to the fort. He is also the focul point because he seems to be the only darkly shaded figure in the panel.
